One block, no joins. The torso turns twice between the hip and the shoulder, and the marble holds that turn without a seam to help it.
The maker polished the front to a soft sheen and left the plinth square, so the body appears to rise out of the stone it was cut from. A vein of iron runs through the left flank and the maker kept it.
The carving took eleven months. The maker added nothing back.
